1930 census
1920 census: 16 yrs old in Platte NE. Attending school, can read & write. Father born W Prussia (crossed out)/Germany; mother born Vienna (crossed out)/Austria. Can speak English. Is farm laborer at home, earning a wage.
213Lived in Michigan “upstairs of my Aunt Frances in Pontiac Michigan.” Family rumored he and Silena were in arranged marriage.
562In 1930 census there is a Frank J. Ruth listed in Columbus NE, age 26. He is listed as the grandson of (very hard to read) Scheckel (?) - “Louise” or “Lewis”??, who is listed as the head. Beneath Frank is listed Gertrude as grand-daughter. “Lewis” owns the house, paid $3000 for it, is a white male age 76, widowed, married at 23, from Czechoslovakia. Frank and Gertrude are both listed as married, he at 22 and she at 20. (Possibly they were visiting Lewis on day of census?) All can read and write. Frank & Gertrude listed as born in Nebraska. Frank’s parents as from Czechoslovakia, Gertrude’s from Germany. Lewis immigrated 1893. Lewis has no occupation, Frank is a trucker (can’t decipher name of company), and Gertrude is a servant with a “private family.” None are veterans. Is this our Frank Ruth?? Right age and area, but other things don’t quite fit. More research needed. NOT OUR FRANK.
1930 census listed at 200 Pearl Street in Michigan City IN. Wife of Frank and mother of Josephina. Age 24 (Frank 36), she married at 19 and he at 32. Own their home at $5500. Josephina 2 yrs old. Frank born in Indiana, Silena in Illinois, Josephina in Indiana. Frank’s and Silena’s parents born in Germany. Frank’s occ listed as “crater” for “metal furniture.” He is listed as a veteran of World War I. What in the heck is the relationship here? Any? Seems not unlikely there’s some relationship to our Ruths, considering the names and locations, but Frank’s age & birthplace is the problem here. Need more info!
573 NOT OUR FRANK/SILENA.
