One of Cathherine’s strongest supporters against her own niece, the “upstart” Anne Boleyn. She helped Catherine in private and spoke out openly against Anne, until Anne finally had her expelled from court in October 1531. The Duchess returned the snub in June 1533 when she was conspicuously absent from Anne’s coronation. When her husband’s affair with lady in waiting Elizabeth Holland proved more than she could bear, the Duchess finally withdrew fromm court altogether in 1533 to her husband’s estate, where she penned letter after letter to Cromwell begging for redress.294
