Scandalized the world when she married a lowborn Welsh servant after Henry V’s death. Their descendants would be decisive in the Wars of the Roses and end only in Elizabeth I, “Gloriana.”
1A statute of 1427-8 forbade the queen to remarry, so her marriage to Owen was kept secret until her premature death. Her children by him were taken into the care of the Abbess of Barking and Owen was “severely punished.”
