She was widowed by then, 50 years old, mother of 10 children, with occupation listed as “Farmer.” It’s possible she was an employer; hard to read the census scribblings. She was born in Germany and immigrated in 1889 along with her sons John and Joseph. She speaks German (doesn’t specify English) and can read and write. She owns her farm free and clear.60
