Death certificate

Imm 1862

Difficult to read last name on death certificate; seems “Behan” is most likely. “Behan” is also the name I’ve seen in Tony’s biographies.1

1900 Census first record linking Elizabeth with Tony, Nora, and Sam. See Tony’s entry for more detail. 72 years old at time of census (June 1900). Widowed. Mother of 9 children, 5 of them living at time of June 1900 census. Both her mother and father were born in Ireland. Year of immigration 1862. For occupation it lists, in lighter ink than nearby entries, what looks like “NY [or NJ]- J - 3 - 1.”491

1910 Census finds her with Eugene (50), Nora (45), and Samuel F (41) [all single] at 1240 Troy (?) Street in Chicago. Head of household, 75, widowed, mother of 5 children with 5 living. She and her parents born in Ireland but speaking English. Date of immigration 1865. Same date for all kids listed. Eugene and Samuel naturalized but not she or Nora. Eugene is a printer, Sam a brakeman; she and Nora’s occupation listed as “none.” All can read and write. Rent home.492
