Notes for Archie Lou MILLS
Archie had a longstanding affair, eventually married the “other woman.”
Rode a horse from Burnham to Hammond when he went to high school. He would leave the horse at Aunt Leaf’s barn during school. He was in his last semester when his father was killed and he had to go to work.
79Registered for the draft (WWI) 05 June 1917 (same day as Leo McLaughlin). Age 21. Address 450 or 4150 (?) Bau(?)er, Hammond IN. Occupation given as (possibly) Electric Crane Operator at some steel plant (Bethlehem?). Nearest living relative reads merely “wife.” No prior military service. To question “Do you claim exemption from draft (specify grounds)? he answered, “None except dependents.” Says he’s of medium height and build, with brown eyes and (probably) brown hair.
