In John Wilder's will written October 14, 1588 in Sulham, Oxfordshire, England, Nicholas was named as his son.(67) His father's will of 14 October 1588 gave to Nicholas the lease of a house and lands in the parish of Hatfield in Southampton that had been granted by Thomas Freburne, deceased.152

He matriculated at Oxford University in 1584, at the age of 17, and later earned a degree.152
