After quitting school he followed farm work and common labor until he was twenty, when he came to United States [imm date ca 1884]. After coming to this country followed common labor. His last job was railroading for Erie as car repairer which he followed for twenty years. He never saved much money.”31

“Grandpa Ruth went west as a young man but came back before he was married. Lived on Clinton Street [that belonged][which he ___ ___] to Anna Romage/Romitsch.”41 Anna was his neice by marriage (daughter to Bertha’s sister). Did he know Bertha beforehand or did he meet her through Anna?1
